Study Data: Tables were calculated using the Components Method, which is based on fertility, mortality and migration rates. The basic data used in calculating the tables was provided by national statistical institutes and health ministries and by the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO) database on deaths by sex and age group. Methodology: Abridged life tables by sex and five-year age group were prepared for the period spanned by the population projections 1950-2050. As a consequence of problems related to the coverage or quality of vital statistics, in many countries indirect methods were used for the estimation of child and adult mortality rates based on data from population censuses and demographic surveys. NOTE: As there are significant differences in mortality between age 0 and age 1, the abridged tables also included mortality rates for age 1. The structure of MORT requires even increments thus to go from age 0 to 1 to 5 is not a supported format. Hence sub-tables are utilized: the first table has 1 year increments for the rates of age 0 and 1 and the second table has 5 year increments for quinquennial ages 5 to 80.
